So Simple

I learned a quick tip recently that I thought I'd share. Its one that was so simple, I was surprised I'd never heard of it or thought of it before.

For those of you who don't know...I love to bake. I'd rather bake than cook, that's how much I love it. But alas, a child cannot grow up big and strong on cake alone...or brownies...or cookies for that matter. I bake all Fall, Winter and Spring. Summer, I usually give the oven a vacation. So when I came upon this cake tip I was pleased as punch or puffs...creme puffs!

When icing a cake, Sandra Lee from Semi-Homemade mentions putting a stripe of parchment paper along the edges of your cake plate to keep the icing from getting all over. Duh!! In all my years of cake making, I never had thought of that. Well, I guess you could wipe around your plate with a paper towel(which is what I do), but apparently this is alot easier. So today I gave it a try. And sure enough...much easier and no mess!

Messy icing all over the parchement!

Beautiful cake with no messy icing on the plate

And since we are on the topic of Sandra Lee, let me just say that I'd like to be invited to one of her meals. Not for the food(although that would be great). Her tablescapes are awesome! Mine would be too if I had a staff to get it all laid out for me.

Hhhhmmmm...maybe I should look into a staff. Right after I deposit our millions!

Allison! My kids school as done the TerraCycle program since it opened two years ago. One Mom decided to take it on herself. She set up a huge bucket on the way into school with a sign so all the kids could bring their juice pouches in. They also set one up in the cafeteria so the kids would put their juice pouches in there as well. She collects them and sends them off. She even set one up down at our neighborhood pool. I asked her a few weeks ago how much money she has made for the school. I really cant remember the exact number but I was shocked at how much it was!!!

It really took off and all the kids are VERY aware of it.

Maybe this could be another job for you! :)

Oh and I will be looking for that picture!!!
